finances

The Finance Department manages the city’s finances. The Department offers accounting, financial, fiscal and budgetary expertise to the Administration and municipal organizations. Its mission is to insure sound management of public funds, while respecting municipal objectives.

When moving, when should we notify the Energy Department? As soon as possible, by telling us your precise moving in or moving out date.

The reading of the residential, commercial and institutional meters is done each month, regardless of the payment method chosen. Water meters are read every three months.

rates (energy and water/sewage)

If you are a new customer, the connection fee is $61.54 + GST plus a deposit of 2 months equivalent electricity use. The energy rates are determined by the Edmundston By-law regulating the network and supply of energy. NOTICE: the By-law has been modified. Please consult its recent changes by reading MODIFICATION 26.1 and MODIFICATION 26.2

A fee of $100 is required for opening the water/sewage service. The Water and Sewer rates are set according to the Water and Sewer utilities By-law of the City of Edmundston and its recent amendments that you can read and download by clicking HERE. 

Please note that a 10% discount is given to seniors aged 65 years and older. Proof of age along with property ownership (property taxes) must be presented as well as proof that property owner lives in the property. 


billing payment

We offer two methods of payment: Pre-authorized or Equal payments. To sign up for preauthorized payments, you must bring a voided cheque and some form of identification. Edmundston Energy offers its clients the possibility of opting for the equal payments method. This allows the cost of electricity to be divided into 12 equal monthly payments based on the energy consumption of the dwelling. The period for the program is from June of the current year to May of the next. To sign up, you must have lived in the same dwelling for at least one year to be eligible.

Payments can also be made in an number of ways : by mail or in person at the City Hall payment counter, at your local financial institution or at the local Service New Brunswick office (Located at Assumption Place). If you prefere, you can also make your payments on-line via the Service New Brunswick Web site. Please note that payments by credit card are accepted at the City Hall payment counter or on-line.
