Wait until June to mow the lawn!

Wait until June to mow the lawn!

For a second year, City of Edmundston residents are invited to let their lawns grow during "No Mow May".

The “buzz” behind this movement is to help pollinator insects, including butterflies and bees, get their first source of pollen and nectar. “There is a general decline in pollinators all over the world, and early in the season, not many food sources are available for pollinators,” explains Daniel Gautreau, Green Spaces Coordinator for the City of Edmundston. “Dandelions are an interesting source of food when there’s not much else. It’s also a way of contributing to biodiversity maintenance, while protecting ecosystems,” he adds.

In support of "No Mow May" or "Dandelion Challenge" movement, the Edmundston Green Spaces team has identified municipal lawn parcels which won't get cut, to provide this primary food source for pollinators.

- Site 1: Around the Public Works Department building (Morneault Street)

- Site 2: In front of the Madawaska Centre (Madawaska Centre Boulevard)

- Site 3: Archibald-Fraser Park (Canada Road)

- Site 4: Eymard-Desjardins Park (Saint-François Street) and

- Site 5 : In front of City Hall (Canada Road)

Citizens are invited to do the same, allowing pollinators to have access to abundant food during the dandelion flowering period.

Those who wish to support “No Mow May” can obtain a lawn sign at City Hall Cash Counter, or request a printable version by email, to the Communications Department (address below).

Join the buzz!
