Public works teams are working tirelessly to deal with the numerous precipitations received during the last weeks. According to l’Acadie Nouvelle, record accumulations were documented in our part of the province this January and February.
Our priorities
Snow removal is usually done in three stages. “Teams must clear the main arteries and road network, then transport the snow. We also apply abrasive materials,” explains Gary Cyr, Public Roads Coordinator. “When the streets get too narrow, we have to blow the rest of the snow at the curb. According to our winter operation plan presented to the municipal council last fall, the municipality intervenes to widen traffic lanes when the space between the edges of the street is less than 6 m wide,” he adds.
Continuous efforts
An inventory of densely snow-covered residential streets was carried out by the service, and as of today, crews have cleared a good part of Edmundston East streets. “The work continues, but we have to deal with many snow storms, which means we work day and night, non-stop. We ask people to be patient and careful on the roads. If Mother Nature cooperates with us, by the end of next week, we will be able to complete most of the snow removal on the territory,” concludes Gary Cyr.
