Elections NB has officially approved the new electoral wards for the City of Edmundston. In a confirmation sent by Director Kimberley Poffenroth, the agency indicates that it will amend the municipality's electoral map accordingly for the next municipal election, scheduled for May 11, 2026.
This approval follows the adoption, at the September public meeting of the municipal council, of a by-law dividing Edmundston into three electoral wards. These new wards are divided geographically along the city's three main axes and combine wards 2 and 5 as well as wards 3 and 4. Ward 1 remains in its entirety.

The division of the municipality into three electoral wards is the result of recommendations made last spring by the Independent Review Panel, chaired by retired judge George Pérusse. After extensive public consultations, the committee recommended the creation of three wards, each represented by three elected officials, to ensure more equitable representation of the population as a whole on the municipal council.
"The review committee's recommendations reflect a desire to strengthen local democracy. With the approval of Elections NB, this change is now official and ensures that all voices, in all sectors of Edmundston, can be fairly represented," said Mayor Eric Marquis.
