
For nearly 20 years now, Edmundston City Council has recognized the work, community involvement and influence of citizens and organizations. Every public meeting begins by naming the month’s “Community Stars”. A special ceremony took place on Sunday, June 4th at the Arts Centre to honor them. Here are those who have made our city shine this past year, from May 2022 to April 2023.
- Sophie Levesque, painter - Made the cover of Canadian magazine Magazin’ Art
- Isabelle Dionne and the members of the ZHAOS Troupe (Marissa Bélanger, Ève Boucher, Audréane Morneault, Jolaine Cyr, Anaève Cyr, Arianne Nadeau, Véronik Poitras, Alex Beaulieu, Olivier Ouellet) - Distinguished themselves during “HIT THE FLOOR” competition in Lévis
- Michelle Beaulieu, "The Apron Girl" - Developed her own line of custom aprons and kitchen accessories from new and recycled fabrics
- Malik Duguay, creator, and entrepreneur - Manufacturer and merchant of magic wands made from pieces of wood found near his home
- Skate Plaza’s Citizens Committee (Jérémie Landry, Martine Marchand, Jacques Rousseau, Dr. Julien Morneault, David Couturier) - Presented the Skate Plaza project which is in the process of being realized
- Gabriel Hébert and Mylène Gagné, co-founders and organizers of the Festival Royal - Had the idea of offering a new kind of family festival downtown, with its 2nd edition coming this year
- Joanne Bérubé-Gagné, recipient of the New Brunswick Tourism Industry Pioneer Award - For her significant work as Director of the Edmundston Madawaska Tourism Office
- Luc Fournier and Louise Guerrette, co-presidents of the Jeux de l'Acadie 50+ - Showed a lot of creativity and dedication to present the activities of 2022 Jeux de l'Acadie 50+
- Mikael Nadeau, graduate of the Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany - Gave a moving testimony to denounce bullying at his school
- Edmundston athletes, members of Team NB for the 2023 Canada Games (Ève Michaud and Isabel Michaud - in alpine skiing, Kristy Michaud - in women's hockey, Alex Thibault - in men's hockey, Blake Cloutier, Noah Cyr, and Félix Cyr - in judo) - Félix even won a bronze medal in his category!
- Sébastien Levesque, CCNB graduate in Laboratory Techniques-Cooperative Biotechnology from the Edmundston Campus - Was able to obtain a place as a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University
- Maxim Michaud, robotics enthusiast - Won the Innovation and Creativity Award - Creative Labs - regionally and provincially with his "Tic-Tac-Bot"
Everyone received a unique certificate and an exclusive pewter pin, made by New Brunswick artisans, from Mayor Eric Marquis.
“These Community Stars are extraordinary beings who stand out as leaders, and who through their accomplishments, make the whole community shine,” said Edmundston Mayor Eric Marquis. “The City Council joins me in thanking and congratulating these community stars who are true ambassadors for Edmundston and great examples to follow!” concluded Mr. Marquis.
