The petit-sault skate plaza project going full steam ahead!

The Edmundston City Council has just awarded a contract to New Line Skateparks Inc. for the construction of a new skatepark in the Petit-Sault Park, near the Lions Pool. The contract is worth $517,300.

A committee of citizens has been working on this project for several years, following a consultation with users and an in-depth evaluation of the needs for facilities for skateboarders, scooters and BMX riders.

In October 2019, the group came before Council to recommend the construction of a new skate plaza facility. Council passed a resolution that the City would be a partner in the project, subject to certain conditions, including that the skate plaza be located within the Parc du Petit-Sault; that other levels of government make a financial commitment; and that a community fundraising campaign be launched.

While thanking the municipal council for its confidence, the group of citizens launched the major fundraising campaign for the realization of the Conseil 1932 Petit-Sault Plaza, with the objective of raising $300,000. The group also announced it had received major donations from the Chevaliers de Colomb Conseil 1932 ($200 000) and IPL Plastics ($10 000).

"Major projects in Edmundston have always been carried out through collaborative efforts. This one is no exception. It's a fantastic project for youth, with impressive development potential," said Martine Marchand, one of the spokespersons.

As announced in 2019, the City will be able to participate financially as well as in goods and services in the realization of the project for a maximum amount of $200,000.
