The events sector will receive important support from the city of edmundston

The Edmundston City Council approves the creation of a new full-time position within the Development Department to revitalize the events sector.

The pandemic has had a negative impact all over the world, but the events sector in particular has been severely affected. Organizers had to be creative and adapt to the various cancellations and the implementation of unpredictable health regulations.

This sector in Edmundston is no exception. To actively work towards recovery, City Council, inspired by what has been done in various cities in New Brunswick, and with the support of local stakeholders, has decided to modify the structures of some municipal services to better support partners, initiatives and development opportunities in the events sector.

The Development Department will become the hub of the new approach, with the addition of an events coordinator position. To this end, engineering services will be transferred to the Public Works Department. In addition, the integrated ticketing service administered by Événements Edmundston Events will be transferred to the Arts and Culture Department. A shared position dedicated to ticketing management and digital marketing will be added to the structure of the Arts and Culture Department.

"The pandemic has been difficult and many stakeholders, often volunteers, are tired. Edmundston has first class resources and facilities that have tremendous potential for development. The addition of these permanent positions to the municipal organization should give a good boost to the partners and help rally partners for the post-covid recovery," explains Edmundston Mayor Eric Marquis.

Early in the new year, the ticketing service will be located at the Arts Centre and the Sports Pavilion, and the two new positions will be posted. Until then, the box office (including tickets for the Blizzard) will continue to be offered by Événements Edmundston.

"We are very confident that these changes, with dedicated resources to the event sector, will have a positive impact in the near future and will ensure a sustainable and centralized events model to develop, attract and support events of various sizes in Edmundston," concluded Mayor Marquis.
