Surveillance cameras owners called to register for CAMunity initiative

The Edmundston Police Force is proud to announce a new community surveillance program to help prevent and solve crimes. As part of this program, residents and businesses with surveillance cameras are invited to take part of this new community initiative, CAMunity.

Owners of surveillance cameras are invited to register for the program so that the Edmundston Police Force can set up a geolocated and 100% confidential database. When a crime occurs, the police will have the option to contact the owners of the cameras located at the crime scene and request a copy of the video footage. The CAMunity directory will help police officers reduce the time and resources used in certain investigations.

To register, click here : CAMunity or go directly to the Edmundston Police Force office to complete the registration form. If you don't have a surveillance camera, but are witness of a crime or any suspicious activity, social media is not the way to go, please contact the Edmundston Police Force at 506.739.2100 instead.

Registration with CAMunity is free, voluntary and this information will never be disclosed to anyone. Similar programs are already in effect in communities in New Brunswick as well as in certain cities in Canada and the United States. Video footage provided by residents have not only helped solve crimes, but also advance several investigations, including missing persons cases and other public safety issues.

Please note that this is strictly a database. Under no circumstances will the Police Force request direct access to your security system or your computer. You will be able to provide video footage on a voluntary basis, only if a crime has been committed within the area covered by your surveillance camera. Rest assured that your information will remain 100% confidential and that clips taken from the video will be reserved for the official use of the Edmundston Police Department. Under no circumstances will it be disclosed to any member or members of the public without the surveillance camera owner's consent.
