The municipal council has just adopted a resolution to update municipal By-Law 29R2019 regarding Traffic, parking, and street use, in order to absorb the repercussions of inflation and to offer new parking time options.
The updated By-Law introduces a new parking duration option for downtown Edmundston. Users who want more flexibility in parking duration will now be able to benefit from off-street parking spaces, available for extended periods (by the hour, half-day or full day). Starting December 2, spaces will be available in public parking lots, Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Users will be able to pay using the Hot Spot mobile application, at a rate of $2 per hour, $5 for a half-day or $8 for the whole day. Easy to use, Hot Spot is a software solution, without infrastructure, deployed in more than 150 cities in North America, to manage the parking network of municipalities or institutions. Off-street parking P7, located behind the police station, remains completely free, all day.
On-street parking remains completely free. The average cost of monthly parking permits is now set at $37.50.
“Hot Spot allows users to pay their parking fees from their cell phone. No need to get out of the car to make payments or to extend your stay,” explained Elaine Roussel, General Manager of Downtown Edmundston. “Also, it's important to note that a payment terminal will be available in the parking lot located below the Cathedral for those who prefer this payment method. They can make a flexible payment there or come see us directly at Downtown Edmundston Office located at 55 de l’Église Street,” concluded Ms. Roussel.
“Between 2 hours and a month, downtown users and visitors previously had no option to meet their need for extended parking. A customer who wanted to take their time shopping, attend a conference, or a show had to move their car before the two o'clock time limit. Thanks to Hot Spot, we can now offer a digital solution that allows us to offer more flexible parking duration options. Our on-street parking, which remains free, will continue to meet the occasional needs of downtown users,” explained Pascal Hudon, Territorial Planning Director for the City of Edmundston.
The Hot Spot application reminds its users when their time is up and allows them to easily refill their time to extend their stay. Payment specifically reflects the time used. The app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. It is valid for parking in the City of Edmundston and other Hotspot communities.
