Ms. Josée Isabelle Riché appointed community worker for the City of Edmundston

To meet the growing needs of people who find themselves in precarious situations, the municipality was looking to fill a new Community Worker position. Under the authority of the Police Force Administration - Deputy Director, in collaboration with the NB Department of Social Development, this service aims to provide support and access to available resources for people in need.

The City of Edmundston, in partnership with the NB Department of Social Development, has just hired Ms. Josée Isabelle Riché as Community Worker. She will work in collaboration with members of the Edmundston Police Force. Ms. Riché has an academic and professional background that has led her to work with people of all ages living in particularly difficult situations, which prepares her for the work that awaits her in the community, mainly with people experiencing homelessness, survivors of criminal acts and individuals at risk of social and societal breakdown.

“The Police Force is increasingly called to respond to cases involving people in situations of physical, psychological, or social distress. These people have the right to obtain adequate resources, more easily and quickly, by having someone to turn to,” explained Steve Robinson, Edmundston Police Force Chief. “The municipality wishes to be proactive by hiring an additional resource to listen to citizens who need it most and by further humanizing the services currently offered. This resource will act directly on the ground, and help the population not only with restorative measures, but also preventive ones. In collaboration with her partners, Ms. Riché will work to reduce chronic homelessness on the territory, offer support and accompaniment to individuals and families struggling with various psychosocial issues,” concluded Chief Robinson.

Ms. Josée Isabelle Riché began on November 12.
