Our 2024-2025 Community Stars

Here are the members of our community who were recognized by the municipal council as Community Stars (May 2024 to May 2025) during a special ceremony at the Arts Centre on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

MAY 2024 - Guylaine Bégin, amateur photographer recognized by Canada Post

A photo of the Restigouche River taken by Guylaine is featured in Canada Post's "Land of Our Ancestors" collection. This collection features iconic landscapes from our seven Canadian provinces and two territories. Her photo represents an incredible attraction of our beautiful region, now steeped in history.

MAY 2024 - Joseph Ralph Nabong, Canadian Kickboxing Champion

At the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) National Championships in Niagara Falls, he became the first WAKO Canadian Champion (under 86 kg) in the history of New Brunswick. His coach describes him as a "nightmare" for his opponents in the ring. He was crowned champion for a second time in May 2025.

JUNE 2024 - Sébastien Blanchette - Provincial Record Holder, Big Wolf's Backyard Ultra Silver Ticket

During the 2024 edition, FPE Patrol Constable Sébastien Blanchette ran for 25 hours, covering an official distance of 167.75 kilometers. The race, which takes place day and night, tests endurance and the ability to manage time and energy. Runners are pushed to the limit until abandonment.

JULY 2024 - Chloé Daigle, Mélissa Richard, and Kloé Levesque, CDJ/Escale Project

Three CDJ students chose to help Escale Madavic as part of their current issues course. Through this project, they successfully raised a significant amount of money and numerous necessities, helping women and children who are victims of domestic violence in our community.

AUGUST 2024 - Stacy Bouchard and Raphaël Bouchard, "Douceur d'Arômes" Project

The young entrepreneurs of Arômes de Florence created the "Douceur d'Arômes" project to bring smiles to children's faces during the holidays. Thanks to their efforts, and the participation of the CCNB Edmundston maintenance team, 350 gift boxes were delivered to RADO and Escale MADAVIC.

SEPTEMBER 2024 - Dorianne Couturier and Paul Couturier, Owners of Foyer Dorianne Couturier

The Foyer has been welcoming people with special needs with open arms for 50 years. The Couturiers' work ensures that these people find not only a place to stay, but a home where they feel accepted and loved, like true members of the family.

OCTOBER 2024 - Sarah Dereumetz, Edith Routhier, Andromar Lubin, and Patrick Martin, Collaborative Initiative - Getting Ready for Back to School

The Mgr-W.-J.-Conway Public Library coordinated an event with funding from the Northwest Regional Resilience Committee to offer newcomers a helping hand for back-to-school. Free workshops for parents, school supplies, and free haircuts for children were given.

NOVEMBER 2024 - Eric J. Thériault, Thrift Store DC

Eric (Embouteillages Théri’eau and Dépanneur le P’tit Donat) took over the Red Cross Thrift Store. Named Friperie DC to recognize Ms. Danielle Cyr's years of dedication, several jobs have been created, and the thrift store's profits are distributed to local charities.

DECEMBER 2024 Tonia Roussel, FPE Community Police Officer

Tonia oversees several community activities and programs, in addition to conducting prevention and awareness-raising activities in schools. She also won the 2024 Community Service Award in the Atlantic region, among all her fellow police officers.

JANUARY 2025 – Derick Power (Fairweather), Eric Toussaint (Teku Syndrom), Eric Nadeau (Teku Syndrom), Guylaine Castonguay (Escale MadaVic), Sandie Devost (Escale MadaVic), and Eric Boutot (member of the Escale MadaVic Board of Directors), She Wrocks Organizing Committee

Members of the organizing committee for the She WROCKS (Strong Humble Edmundston Women) benefit show - 2nd edition, featuring Teku Syndrom and Fairweather. Both groups wanted to give back to their community by donating the evening's proceeds to Escale MadaVic.

FEBRUARY 2025 - Marc Steeves, Vincent Lauzon, Catherine Delafield, Parise Dubé, Philip Voyer, Pierre Couturier, Lance & Donne Tournament Revival Committee

Members of the Lance & Donne Tournament Revival Committee after a three-year absence at the CJ-D. In 2025, three organizations benefited from the tournament's profits: the Edmundston Regional Hospital Foundation, the Tree of Hope Campaign, and the Northwest Special Olympics.

MARCH 2025 Marie-Pier St-Onge, bookmark distribution, Promoting Life & Suicide Prevention, Madawaska Inc.

Having lost her sister Josée-Anne to suicide in 2020, Marie-Pier distributes informative bookmarks through mailboxes throughout the municipality. She hopes the resources there can help people see the light at the end of the tunnel, and maybe even save lives.

APRIL 2025 - Nicholas Reilley, Elena Aboud, Hugo Barrette, Edouard Pelletier, Lucas Morel, and Charles Dionne won the forestry games at the 46th Salon de la Forêt at Université Laval

Under the theme: "Vos forêts, c’est dans notre branche," the friendly competition included forestry challenges based on knowledge, cooperation, creativity, and speed. The UMCE team won the top prize among a dozen French-speaking College and University teams.

MAY 2025 - Olivia Levesque, Chloé Bonenfant, Alicia Thériault, Shanie Martin, Ève Cormier, Mylène Grandmaison, Kelly-Ann Boudreau, Amélie Marquis, Jade Charest, Alicia Thériault, Laura St-Onge, and Célia Agouda, Relay for Life Revival Committee

The Relay for Life, a fundraising campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society, was revived in 2025, thanks to a group of students from the Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany.
