Adoption of a new program for the future for Edmundston

Adoption of a new program for the future for Edmundston

The Edmundston City Council has just acquired an essential tool to guide its decisions for the coming years. The new strategic plan for the City of Edmundston has just been adopted. With this plan, Edmundston has a renewed vision and strategy to ensure that it becomes a sustainable, prosperous, open and inclusive city.

"With this document, Council has set a clear objective, that is, to take action today to ensure the future," explained Mayor Eric Marquis. The new strategic plan was presented to the public during the public meeting of the municipal council. "Our actions will be directed mainly towards economic development, sustainable development and quality of life."

In the period from 2014 to date, the municipal organisation has followed through on most of the initiatives outlined in the last planning cycle. The new strategic plan was developed following various consultations with partners, elected officials and municipal staff. The plan is structured around four main directions for the future of the city, from which priority initiatives flow.

The main directions are:

  • Sustainability
  • Prosperity
  • Openness
  • Inclusion

The new plan includes a list of very concrete initiatives that will be implemented over the next year, both by municipal staff and within the community.

Council continues to rely on the creativity of staff, the character of citizens and partners, and the unique advantages of the environment to move the community forward.

"Development and quality of life are important issues that are priorities for council. To ensure growth, we must make our community attractive enough to retain our young people and attract new residents. And that means opportunities and quality of life," explained Mayor Marquis.
