New configuration on 47th Avenue to slow down traffic

The City of Edmundston’s Operations Department says work on 47th Avenue is nearing completion. To respond to citizens' concerns and make travel safer, the width of 47th Avenue was narrowed, and two roundabouts were built. This new configuration should have the effect of reducing speed in this sector. The first roundabout is at the intersection of 47th Avenue and 20th Street, while the second will be at the intersection of 47th Avenue and 22nd Street, which will include landscaping and streetlights.

To properly use these roundabouts, motorists must adopt the “first come, first served” principle. There will no longer be mandatory stops for people traveling on 20th and 22nd streets. However, there will be “Yield” signs in all directions. “The first car arriving at the roundabout will be able to enter the intersection and those who arrive subsequently will have to give way to those already engaged. Traffic will be in a counterclockwise direction, right to left, ” explained Infrastructure Coordinator Louis Ruest.

As for 47th Avenue, the asphalt work should begin this week, followed by the last layer of asphalt, as well as repairs to entrances and retaining walls, etc.

The City of Edmundston thanks you for your patience and collaboration during this important work.
