New configuration at the Réal and Perron intersection to improve safety and calm traffic

New configuration at the Réal and Perron intersection to improve safety and calm traffic

Motorists on Réal and Perron streets in Edmundston-North will soon notice a new configuration at their intersection. In response to concerns expressed by residents, a new turning circle has been built, following the same model as those on 47th Avenue, to reduce speeding and improve traffic safety in the area.

The Operations Department confirms that the major infrastructure work carried out at this location are nearing completion, including an extension of Réal Street onto Victoria Street. With the asphalting completed, the Public Works department will proceed with line marking and the installation of road signs.

To ensure that the turning circle is used safely and smoothly, we would like to remind you of a few basic principles:

  • There will no longer be any mandatory stops for motorists travelling on rue Perron.
  • Yield signs will be installed in all directions.
  • The principle will be "first come, first served": the first car to enter the roundabout will have priority, and those arriving later will have to give way to vehicles already there.
  • Traffic flows in a counter-clockwise direction.

"Turning circles, which are becoming increasingly common in residential areas across the country, help traffic flow more smoothly, reduce speed as well as the risk of right-angle collisions," explains Louis Ruest, Infrastructure Coordinator for the City of Edmundston.
