Logement HAN presents its initiative to City Council and invites the public to an information session

The non-profit organization Logement HAN appeared before the Edmundston City Council during its monthly public meeting to present an affordable and accessible housing project currently under consideration within the City.

As part of its planning process, Logement HAN reviewed several potential sites throughout Edmundston. Following site visits and analysis, the organization selected the location of the former Jeanne-Vienneau Park, a site that has not been used as an active park for several years.

The proposed project responds to a real, urgent, and well-documented need for affordable and accessible housing, an option that is very limited in Edmundston and in high demand. A recent survey conducted by the City clearly highlights the importance of developing this type of housing, particularly for individuals living with special needs and for seniors requiring specific accessibility adaptations.

The project under study includes the construction of 24 housing units, distributed across three buildings, intended for low-income, independent individuals living with a physical disability; an intellectual disability; autism spectrum disorder (ASD); as well as seniors requiring similar adaptations.

Logement HAN is a well-established organization with a strong reputation in Québec, where it has completed many inclusive and adapted housing projects. The Edmundston initiative would represent the organization’s very first project in New Brunswick, marking a promising first for the region.

Committed to preserving community heritage, Logement HAN has also expressed its desire to honour Mrs. Jeanne Vienneau, after whom the former park was named, by incorporating a form of recognition within the project.

To encourage information-sharing, listening, and open dialogue, the City of Edmundston and Logement HAN invite the public to attend an information session regarding the proposed project.

The meeting, which will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, at the Godbout Centre, will present Logement HAN’s mission, outline the proposed site development, describe the population to be served, and provide an opportunity for open discussion with citizens.

All members of the public are welcome to attend.
