Parking prohibited in a fire zone: legislation

The Police Force, in collaboration with the City of Edmundston's Fire Department, have launched an awareness campaign aimed at motorists, so that they avoid parking in a fire zone; either a lane reserved for fire trucks, or in front of a fire hydrant.

A motorist who parks in an area reserved for the fire department faces various tickets such as:

Article 39 of municipal decree No 29R2019 - Traffic, parking, and use of streets

https://edmundston.ca/application/files/3716/3810/9982/Arrete_29R2019.pdf

39) No person may park a motor vehicle on a street or portions of streets designated as a fire lane reserved for the fire department by a traffic control device erected by the municipality or by the owner of the land.

If a motorist is found guilty of this offence, a $125 fine can be attributed.

Section 193(1)(d) New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act

https://www.canlii.org/en/nb/laws/stat/rsnb-1973-c-m-17/latest/rsnb-1973-c-m-17.html

193(1) No person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with law or the directions of a peace officer or traffic-control device, in any of the following places:

(d) within five metres from the point on the curb or edge of the roadway immediately opposite a fire hydrant

If a motorist is found guilty of this offence, a $172.50 fine can be attributed.

The Fire Department and the Edmundston Police Force will periodically check the fire zones and thank you in advance for your cooperation.
