Electricity rates increase in New Brunswick and in Edmundston

Edmundston City Council agrees to increase electricity rates by 2% to absorb a similar increase announced by NB Power and approved by the Government of New Brunswick last November. The effective date is April 1^st,2022 throughout the province.

Although Edmundston Energy generates electricity, it is not enough to supply the entire municipality. The City of Edmundston must therefore purchase its electricity from NB Power to resell it to its customers. This rate review is necessary to maintain uniform rates in New Brunswick.

Consumer rates for residential customers rose from 11.38 cents / kWh to 11.61 cents / kWh. The impact of the increase in residential rates depends on consumption, but for an average home, could represent an increase of about $4.50 per month.

Edmundston Energy was founded in 1911 and today serves nearly 9000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across four substations. It records sales of 254 million kWh annually.
