On May 9th, members of the Edmundston Police Force arrested three men from the Montreal region, for cases of fraud and identity theft in the Edmundston region. The fraudsters managed to get their hands on merchandise worth more than $15,000. During the arrests, investigators quickly discovered that these fraudsters had also been active in the Grand Falls region.
Reggy Rivette, 28 years old, Bilal Samadi, 29 years old and Abdellah Affane, 20 years old, allegedly purchased goods in several regional businesses with fraudulent credit cards and false identities. They now face charges of identity theft (stealing a third party’s personal information for criminal purposes); identity fraud (using stolen personal information to commit another crime) and use of fraudulent documents.
The three men appeared for the first time in Edmundston Provincial Court on May 10th, 2024 to answer these charges. They will be back before a judge on May 15th at 1:30 p.m. for their release hearing.
The investigation made it possible to recover the fraudulently obtained goods, which had been stored in Edmundston with the aim of being picked up later. This matter remains under investigation and additional charges may be filed soon.
