A first hybrid vehicle for Edmundston Energy

Mar 11, 2022

A first hybrid vehicle for Edmundston Energy

Edmundston Energy’s Meter Reader, who is on the road most of his workdays, is now driving a hybrid vehicle.

Last year, Edmundston Energy purchased a Hyundai IONIQ hybrid, one of the best fuel-efficient cars in the country, with a combined fuel efficiency of 4.1 L / 100 km. Equipped with a 1.6L "Kappa" engine with direct gasoline injection, it also has a 32-kW electric motor and a 1.56 kWh lithium-ion battery.

A green vehicle

One of the only cities in New Brunswick to generate part of its own energy (8.5 megawatts), the City of Edmundston adopted a climate change adaptation plan in October 2020. With this plan, the City of Edmundston is continuing its proactive approach, aimed at improving the city’s overall resilience while reducing the risks associated with climate change

"By purchasing a hybrid vehicle, the service is taking another step in the right direction," explained Pierre Roy, Edmundston Energy director. "Citizens will easily recognize the vehicle, which bears our logo as well as a green and dynamic visual, which reflects our service," he concludes.

Charging stations

The City of Edmundston now has electric and hybrid charging stations, at City Hall, Jean-Daigle Centre, St-Jacques Palladium, St-Basile Arena, Tourism Edmundston & Region office, and Edmundston Energy Service Department. Users will need a “Charge Point” or “Flo” type application to charge their vehicle.

The same regulation applies for charging stations as the one concerning designated parking spaces for persons with disabilities.

Only electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles may be immobilized in a space reserved for energy recharging. However, they can only be immobilized there if connected to the charging station.
