Motocross traffic on municipal territory

Motocross traffic on municipal territory

Once again, this year, the Edmundston Police Force wants to wants to raise awareness about motocross traffic on municipal streets, ATV trails and on the bike path.

“The main offenses observed are related to dangerous driving, speed and noise. Motocross owners use streets and trails to access private land surrounding their residences, which means they do not respect the law on off-road vehicles,” explaines Inspector Martin Perron.

According to paragraph 16 of the Off-Road Vehicle Act: Subject to the regulations or any municipal order made under section 37, no person may drive an off-road vehicle within 7.5 meters of the used part of a road. In short, motocross:

  • cannot be registered, so is uninsurable
  • cannot be riden on the road, bike path, or ATV trails
  • can be riden on closed circuits and private lands only
  • are included in the Off-Road Vehicle Act

The Police Force will therefore have an increased presence in certain more problematic sectors and will issue fines to motocross drivers who do not respect this law.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and collaboration.
