2024 Snow removal operations

Public Works Department’s road crews, as well as local contractors, carry out snow removal work night and day to ensure the maintenance of streets and sidewalks, for your safety and that of your loved ones. Rest assured that the Public Works Department works jointly with the Police Force, especially during winter storms, so that everyone can circulate smoothly. As citizens, you must also exercise caution to avoid unfortunate incidents related to these operations, and follow these tips.

To ensure everyone’s safety:

• Make sure not to clutter the sidewalks with garbage or recycling bins and leave the necessary space for the machinery to do its work.

• Avoid pushing snow on sidewalks to allow pedestrians to circulate safely.

• Avoid pushing snow on the side of the street, which can cause an obstacle to motorists.

• Avoid pushing snow near fire hydrants, which must remain clear at all times.

• Explain to your children that it is not safe to dig tunnels or build snow structures on the side of the street.

• Be vigilant when driving near snow removal vehicles. Like all heavy vehicles, they have large blind spots.

• Attention! Snow removal vehicles often have to move forward and backward to do their work. Stay visible to the operators of these vehicles.

• Make eye contact with the driver to ensure they are aware of your presence. If in doubt, stay away from the vehicle.
