With its Arts Hall of Fame, Edmundston recognizes and honors people or groups who:
• have distinguished themselves through the excellence of their accomplishments and their contribution in the fields of literary arts, visual arts, performing arts, cinematographic arts, crafts, community cultural development and arts education.
• and/or who have brought special distinction to Edmundston in any artistic field whatsoever or who have made a major contribution to the organization and development of the artistic field in Edmundston.
This program promotes the development of links between the municipality, artists and the population. It aims to further promote professional artists, all disciplines combined, working on the municipality's territory. It also aims to encourage innovation and the creation of partnerships as well as to highlight the artistic dynamics of the greater Edmundston community.
The One City • One Artist program, originally initiated by the Acadian Association of Professional Artists of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Art Marketing Board in five municipalities in the province, was very successful in Edmundston. As this provincial project has not been postponed, the Municipality, always wishing to recognize the work of artists, reiterates on its own initiative.
The integrating the arts into the architecture and environment of municipal buildings and sites policy is a measure adopted by the municipal council in 2003 during the presentation of the cultural policy action plan.
It consists of reserving part of the construction budget, the expansion of a building or a public site for the creation of one or more works of art designed specifically for its location or in certain cases for the purchase of art work already produced.
The cultural sector of the municipality is responsible for the application and ensures coordination. The policy has three objectives:
• Encourage the creation or purchase of works of art with a view to their permanent integration into the architecture or environment of public places, taking into account the purpose of these places.
• Increase the dissemination of works by artists from the municipality and New Brunswick.
• Raise awareness of current art and its various trends and forms of expression in the fields of visual arts and crafts.
The integrating the arts into architecture and the environment policy is aimed exclusively at creators in the visual arts and artistic professions who practice in a professional matter.
