Emergency measures

emergency measures plan and emergency communications

The City of Edmundston's emergency measures plan was developed in conjunction with all municipal departments, as well as with regional and provincial stakeholders, organizations and major companies in the region.

Disasters always happen unexpectedly. Industrialization means that the risk of disaster is omnipresent. Edmundston is no exception. For example, the transportation of goods and hazardous materials by road, air or rail alone increases the risks.

Jacques Doiron, Emergency Measures Coordinator, explains that the plan is a dynamic tool that must be constantly revised. "We always have a complete emergency measures plan, but it's important to review it from time to time.

Key elements of the plan include updating communications to include social media. In addition, the team conducted a risk reassessment and established defined processes around review and training. In addition, municipal by-law 20R2015 has been updated to align the municipal plan with provincial legislation.

The City of Edmundston is offering residents the opportunity to subscribe to its text messaging communication system, Voyent-Alert. By subscribing (it's free and anonymous), you'll receive text message notifications in case of emergency, but also on other subjects that have an impact on daily life.
