You can help us protect yourself and your neighbourhood by adopting a fire hydrant during the winter season!

The City of Edmundston has a complete system of fire hydrants to ensure water supply to our pumper trucks in case of fire. There are over 700 hydrants throughout the city.
While hydrant maintenant is the City's responsability, citizens must make sure hydrants are free of any obstruction for a distance of 1 metre or 3 feet at all times. This standard is set by the National Fire Prevention Code (NFPC) currently in effect in Edmundston.
This means fences, trees, shrubs and snow must not obstruct any hydrant. Please note, however, that a hydrant snow clearing program is in effect in our city.
Our three fire stations are located in the Saint-Jacques, Saint-Basile and downtown sectors. Over 60 full-time and auxiliary firefighters spread out within the three stations make up our department and are ready to assist citizens at all times. Among these firefighters, there are 2 firefighters and one officer in service 24/7. Our firefighters respond to an average of over 300 emergency calls every year.
The mission of the members of the Edmundston Fire and Safety Department is to intervene on the territory we oversee through actions that allow to save lives, protect property and preserve the environment.
By integrating prevention, preparedness, intervention and recovery, the vision of our Fire and Safety Department is to offer citizens a quality, efficient and effective service, while optimizing available human resources in order to meet the highest firefighting and prevention standards.
Along with fire emergency calls, our firefighters are trained to respond to a number of different situations, including car accidents, hazardous material, different rescues such as enclosed spaces, nautical and collapses, or during major situations or emergency measures.
In order to offer efficient and optimal services, training and preparedness play a crucial role in our firefighters' daily routine. Many different trainings (on-going and unique) are prepared according to current standards which ensure that they are up-to-date on all new techniques.

Your Fire and Safety Department offers an interesting prevention program which aims at making sure that each residence in Edmundston has a smoke detector.
Each year, from May until October, our firefighters visit your homes to offer tips on fire prevention. In collaboration with different organizations and businesses, we distribute free smoke detectors to homes that don't have one.
If you do NOT have a smoke detector, please contact your local fire brigade. Our firefighters will be more than happy to give you one at no charge. Let's just make sure that Edmundston is safe at all times.
