Crest - Edmundston Police Force

The Edmundston Police Force crest takes its origins from the official coat of arms of this predominantly French City in North-Western New Brunswick. The unicorn represents Sir Edmund Walker Head (1805-1868), 8th and last baronet, Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick (1848-1854) and Governor General of Canada (1854-1861), who, in 1856, gave his name to the village of Petit-Sault after a request from the residents. The Head Family had three unicorns in its coat of arms.

The fir trees represent both agriculture and forestry, the economic pillars of Madawaska County, of which Edmundston is the county seat and the largest city. The two lightning bolts are symbols of hydroelectric power, since the city of Edmundston is the only city in New Brunswick to generate hydroelectricity. The star symbolises hope; it is the Stella Maris, the Star of the Sea, the chief symbol of Acadia, adopted in 1884. The maple leaf ties in our pride in being part of this country.
