2nd US-NB-QC Law Enforcement Conference

Oct 16, 2024

2nd US-NB-QC Law Enforcement Conference

On October 10, the Edmundston Police Force welcomed more than 140 participants to the 2nd edition of the conference bringing together law enforcement officers and community partners. Participants from the United States, New Brunswick and Quebec met again to discuss the latest issues and possible solutions to fight crime. The event took place at the Edmundston Convention Centre.

Sergeant Derrick Forret and Corporal Maurice Richard of the Eastern Region National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST-GRC) presented the characteristics of an armed person; officers Sébastien Pitre and Jean-François Clément of the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) Analysis and Intelligence section, presented trends in street gangs; and finally, FPE community police officer Tonia Roussel and community social worker Chad St-Onge shed light on existing community projects in NB’s northwest region, that could be carried out elsewhere to improve ties with the community.

“The City of Edmundston is located on the borders of the United States and Quebec and is the gateway to the Atlantic provinces. It was essential to establish and maintain dialogue with our American and Quebec colleagues to share information, strengthen partnerships with the various law enforcement agencies, ensure a more standardized prevention strategy and, above all, network for the future,” explained Steve Robinson, City of Edmundston Chief of Police. “This is the 2nd edition of this conference, and the participants truly appreciate this initiative. We will do it again,” concluded Chief Robinson.

The organization of this conference is thanks to the support of the NB’s Department of Justice and Public Safety, the Northwest Regional Service Commission (NWRSC) and the Edmundston Police and Dispatchers Association. The high number of registrations also allowed to make a food donation worth $1,500 to Atelier R.A.D.O.
