Due to persistent drought and the absence of rain since early July, New Brunswick is facing a high risk of wildfires (Level 2). A burn ban remains in place for the entire province, no fires are allowed including at all provincial parks.
Current situation:
7 active wildfires in New Brunswick (including 1 out of control in the Miramichi region)
Province-wide fire ban remains in place, including for all provincial parks (no camp fires)
As of midnight tonight, access to all Crown lands in the province will be prohibited. All industrial and recreational activities must cease due to exceptionally dry and dangerous conditions. Private landowners are strongly encouraged to apply the same measures.
The situation in New Brunswick is extremely precarious, and residents must stay out of the woods for their own safety and that of their communities, wildlife habitats, and forests. ATV trails and wooded trails should be avoided due to the extremely high fire risk.
We ask the public to:
Refrain from making any fires, even in a fire pit with a spark guard
Avoid discarding cigarettes on the ground
Not to set off fireworks
Avoid any travel in forests or other wooded areas
These simple actions can protect our forests and save lives.
