The City of Edmundston would like to inform residents that the spring special collection (bulk waste) is currently experiencing delays. Despite the sustained efforts of the contractor, Gallant Entreprise, the delay is directly caused by some residents’ failure to follow the guidelines: excessive volumes of waste left at the curb, the presence of non-accepted materials such as hazardous products and tires, as well as piles of waste that extend well beyond the boundaries of properties.
Another challenge observed on the ground by the contractor: some residents are taking advantage of the special collection to clear out their entire homes, adding small items that should simply go in the trash bin. This is not what the special collection is for, and it makes the contractor’s job much more difficult. So: if it fits in your bin, it goes in your bin. The special collection is for items that are too large, not to replace the regular collection.
Residents who have followed the guidelines deserve an efficient service. That is why we are counting on everyone to do their bit. Bulk waste collection works when everyone plays their part. Please note: non-compliant items will not be collected. It will be the responsibility of the owner or occupant to dispose of them in accordance with the rules in force.
A reminder of what is not collected:
To dispose of these items properly, here are the available options:
Hazardous materials
Residential hazardous waste collections will take place this year on May 30, September 12 and October 24 at the Public Works Department.
Old tires
Tires must be disposed of in accordance with provincial guidelines. Tipping fee waivers are available online or at the the Edmundston City Hall payment counter, allowing you to bring your tires, construction waste and other bulk items free of charge to Gallant or COGERNO.
Green waste
There is a site on Titus Road where you can dispose of your branches, grass clippings and leaves. These items must not be placed in normal or special collections.
We would like to thank the many residents who follow the guidelines and help ensure this collection runs smoothly. Your cooperation makes a real difference.
If you have any questions or would like to know the full guidelines, please contact the City of Edmundston’s Public Works Department on 506 739 2103 or by email at requetes@edmundston.ca
