The Police Force plays an important role in the integration of newcomers

On Wednesday, December 13th, 2023, the Edmundston Police Force had the honor of presenting its role and its commitment towards newcomers during a significant meeting with the Haut-Saint-Jean Local Immigration Partnership (PLI-HSJ). The PLI is the mechanism used by the Department of Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to support partnership development in communities and to facilitate community planning based on the needs of newcomers. This presentation by the Police Force highlighted the importance of the collaboration between the police and local partners to promote successful integration of newcomers, so that diverse communities feel understood, respected, and protected within our city.

The Edmundston Police Force has thus demonstrated its commitment to working hand in hand with the PLI and its various partners to create a welcoming and safe environment for newcomers, while strengthening ties with the existing community.

During this meeting, François Levesque, Edmundston Police Force Deputy Chief also presented the mandate and objectives of the new Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee, of which he is co-president. This committee includes provincial police services, including the Edmundston Police Force.

This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to build bridges between different cultures and groups within our city, affirming the crucial role of police in promoting harmony and mutual understanding.
