Negotiations between the union representing police officers and emergency call centre staff in Edmundston, represented by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBCJA), Local 1386, and the municipal administration have resulted in an agreement satisfactory to both parties.
The negotiations were supported by a mediator appointed by the Province of New Brunswick. Thanks to this support process, a mutually satisfactory agreement was reached without resorting to a strike or lockout.
The agreement provides for pay rises ranging from 18% to 22% over the duration of the contract for the two groups of employees covered: police officers and emergency call centre staff.
“We are very pleased to have reached this duly negotiated agreement with our public safety employees. This collective agreement demonstrates our commitment to our teams and the people of Edmundston. We thank all parties involved for their hard work and willingness to find common ground,” explained the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Marc Michaud.
The City of Edmundston reaffirms its commitment to the safety of its citizens and to recognizing the men and women who contribute to this on a daily basis.
It should be noted that these employees had been without a collective agreement since December 2024.
