The Edmundston Fire & Safety Department reminds residents of the importance of keeping basement windows clear, as well as at least one facade of every building, as a preventative measure (snow, ice, materials, vehicles, bins, landscaping, etc.)
Why is this essential?
- Basement windows can serve as emergency exits for residents.
- They also allow firefighters quick access to the interior during an intervention.
- A clear facade ensures safe and efficient access for emergency crews.
Access for Emergency Vehicles
Fire Department vehicles must have direct access to the building via:
- a street,
- a yard, or
- a well-maintained road, all year round.
During the winter months, it is especially important to:
- clear snow from basement windows,
- keep access points clear,
- prevent snow and ice from accumulating near buildings.
These simple measures can save lives, reduce damage, and facilitate a quick and safe response.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring everyone's safety.
