In January 2023, part of the former St-Jacques DSL, part of the former St-Joseph DSL and the Rivière-Verte sector were amalgamated into the municipal territory of the City of Edmundston.
In December 2023, By-law 04R2013: Collection and disposal of garbage and recyclable materials was modified by the municipal council, to include these new sectors, to standardize garbage collection and recycling services, on the entire new municipal territory.
New provincial regulation on recyclable materials
As of May 1, the City of Edmundston's recycling program is managed entirely by Circular Materials, a non-profit organization committed to establishing efficient recycling systems in New Brunswick. Please note that there are no changes to the recyclable materials found in your blue bin for the moment.
Garbage and recycling collections – transition period
The Public Works Department reminds the population of the City of Edmundston that as of MAY 6th, 2024, a new schedule for garbage, recyclable and special materials collections will come into effect throughout the territory. This calendar will be distributed to each residence by May 6th, with an FAQ.
* You can also download your new collection calendar here, indicating your postal address.
An informative video, presented by Gary Cyr, public roads coordinator and responsible for collections in the area, is available on the City of Edmundston's FB page. It explains the main changes to garbage and recycling collections. He will be invited to the La Jasette, this Wednesday, May 1 at 1 p.m. on Frontière FM.
Exceptionally, for the month of May 2024, garbage collections will be done weekly, to allow the contractor to adjust, following the addition of nearly 1,000 new residences to its usual route. Recycling collections will take place every two weeks. Please note that some addresses will keep the same collection schedule, but some will change days. However, garbage collection carried out by Gallant Entreprises Ltd. will take place on the same day as the recycling collection, which is now being carried out by FERO/North West Sanitation Services Ltd.
* It's important to note that during double collection weeks, exceptionally from May to October 2024, the bins must be placed on each side of your entrance, opening towards the street, to facilitate the work of contractors.
Your new calendar
Since this is a transition period, we ask citizens to be patient to allow teams to adjust to the new routes. Here's how to get your new collections calendar:
Please note that these calendars are subject to change due to the transition process. Rest assured that we will inform you of any changes if this is the case. We greatly appreciate your patience during this transition, your understanding and your collaboration.
