Spring operations: where's the street sweeper?

Citizens of the City of Edmundston can follow the course of public road cleaning operations in real time, thanks to a web geographic application, such as where’s the plow and where’s the sidewalk tractor.

"Some maintenance municipal vehicles working on public roads are equipped with GPS that transmit the approximate location of equipment by the minute,” explains Public Roads Coordinator, Gary Cyr.

“Each category of vehicle is represented by its own icon. You can also see the unit number of the vehicle above the icon, which allows you to follow the work done in real time,” adds Mr. Cyr.

To access the interactive map, people simply click on "Where is the sweeper?" in the Quick Access section of the City of Edmundston website, or on the large Street Cleaning button at the bottom of the home page. The application can be opened from a computer, a tablet or a smartphone. A user's guide is available before accessing the application, which will help you understand the information it contains and how to consult it.

For the moment, only a few Canadian cities offer this kind of interactive map, which was made possible thanks to the mapping and geomatics work of the Development Department in collaboration with the Public Works Department team.

The spring cleaning operations have started this week.
