The Edmundston Fire & Safety Department would like to remind you of certain instructions to have a safe Holiday Season and prevent an unfortunate incident from occurring. Rest assured that the F & S personnel are ready to intervene 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even during the holiday season. To protect your home, your family, and your guests, make sure to:
Make an evacuation plan and:
- Check if your smoke detectors are working
- Clear exterior doors and basement windows, they could serve as emergency exits
Decorate considering what's around:
- Install the tree and decorations away from heat sources and water your natural tree every day
- Don’t overload your electrical outlets and turn off your light decorations when you are not there
- Don’t let young children or pets play with electric or light decorations
Cook cautiously with the right tools:
- Avoid distractions when cooking
- Place your food in an ovenproof pan (glass, ceramic or aluminum dish)
- Always use oven mitts and be sure to securely turn off the oven and stove burners
Be aware that improper use of these elements, or even a simple moment of distraction can cause an electric shock, a spark, which could lead to injury or even a fire. We invite you to watch these short video clips prepared by our Fire & Safety Department, showing you what to do (and not to do) to minimize the risks of fire in your home.
On that note, the Edmundston Fire & Safety Department staff would like to wish you a Happy & Safe Holiday Season!
