Respect signage on the bike path

City of Edmundston’s Public Works Department Green Spaces team reminds us that bicycle safety begins with the adoption of preventive behaviors and compliance with the Road Safety Code. Being on the lookout, being seen and riding safely is important.

According to New Brunswick’s Motor Vehicle Act, cyclists traveling on a roadway have the same rights and obligations as vehicle drivers. Cyclists must know and respect traffic rules and regulations.

“With this message, we hope that bike path users will be more attentive to the signage, and above all respect stop signs at intersections, before an unfortunate incident occurs,” explained Daniel Gautreau, Green Spaces Coordinator for Public Works Department.

Bike paths exist to ensure the safety of cyclists, but other users, such as pedestrians, dog walkers and other cyclists, can act unpredictably. Therefore, cyclists who want to travel quickly may choose to use roads instead of bike paths. It is essential to respect the regulations and signage of the bike path in order to ensure the safety of everyone.
