No parking in fire zones: every minute counts

City of Edmundston's Fire & Safety Department, in collaboration with the Police Force, is launching an awareness campaign for motorists, so they avoid parking in fire zones; either in a lane reserved for fire trucks, or in front of a fire hydrant.

The Fire & Safety Department must respond to various interventions as quickly as possible, in buildings or any other establishment such as hospitals and schools. Fire zones are therefore essential for firefighters to ensure the safety of citizens. These areas give them direct access to the sprinkler system fire main, often located near an entrance door and the alarm panel, or even to a door leading to a mechanical room. In case of a fire, the Fire Department must always have access to these entrances.

Firefighters also travel with large vehicles, so these areas are strategic for their rapid arrival. A car parked in this area will slow down the work of firefighters considerably, which can be fatal.

It is important to respect the signs on buildings or on poles near fire zones. These are highly visible, either showing the image of a fire truck; a no-parking logo and/or a reserved fire zone.

Please avoid parking in a fire zone so firefighters can do their jobs, because during a fire, every minute counts.

The Fire Department and the Edmundston Police Force will periodically check fire zones. Both departments thank you in advance for your cooperation.
