On the night of June 30th to July 1st 2025, shortly after midnight, members of the Edmundston Police Force received a call about an incident in an apartment on Rosario Street in Edmundston.
On arrival, officers found a seriously injured and unconscious person lying on the floor. After a preliminary examination, it was quickly determined that the victim was deceased, and that the cause of death appeared to be a homicide.
The investigators, along with a member of the forensic identification section and New Brunswick RCMP’S Police Dog Services were immediately called to the scene to carry out the initial investigations and gather the information needed to solve the case.
A few hours after the incident, a 48-year-old man from the Edmundston area, known to the authorities for his previous convictions, was arrested in connection with the homicide. The man was questioned by investigators. He then appeared by teleconference before a Provincial Court judge where he was formally charged with second-degree murder.
As the investigation is in its first stage, neither the name of the accused nor that of the victim, a 58-year-old man from the area, can be released.
Following his appearance, the suspect was taken into custody. He will appear again on July 2 at 1:30 p.m. in Edmundston Provincial Court. The investigation is ongoing.
