A frequent cause of accidents is the failure to respect right of way at intersections

An in-depth analysis conducted by the Edmundston Police Force indicates that, in addition to distractions, a frequent cause of road accidents is the failure to respect the right of way at intersections.

The Police Force recently undertook an analysis and steps to reduce the number of accidents within the city. The analysis revealed frequent violations of priority at intersections.

Among the most frequent offences, the following are particularly noteworthy:

  • failing to give way to a vehicle at an intersection
  • failing to give way to a vehicle coming from the right
  • not giving way to an approaching vehicle when making a left turn or when entering or leaving a road

It should also be noted that the right of way must be given to pedestrians and authorised emergency vehicles when required.

These regulations are outlined in several  of the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act and carry fines ranging from $172.50 to $292.50 for violations.

The Edmundston Police Force thanks you for your caution on our roads and reminds you to yield when in doubt.
