Local company to develop rental housing in Edmundston North

Ébénisterie TechDesign Inc. owned by Mr. Patrick Ouellette is acquiring 909 Victoria Street (municipal property that was formerly known as the Bie Boucher grocery store), following a public call for project proposals for municipal land.

In the proposal that was selected by the municipal council, Ébénisterie TechDesign confirms that it wants to build a two-storey commercial building as well as 20 units of rental housing for families. To do so, the company will demolish the building currently on site and proceed with the new construction.

The project will be carried out in two specific phases. The first phase includes the demolition of the old building by June 30, preparation of the site and construction of a first section of housing units in the current year. The second phase will take place in 2023 and will consist of the construction of the commercial building, the second section of housing units, the development of a green space and a children's park.

"We were very impressed with the project proposed by Mr. Ouellette. This type of initiative has proven itself in the past, notably for the former Ste-Marie school and the transformation of the old police station. We are very satisfied with Mr. Ouellette's proposal, which meets all the criteria we had defined, notably feasibility and the creation of land value, in addition to meeting a need for rental housing for families," explained Edmundston Mayor Eric Marquis.

In order to make the project possible, the Municipality will move the skating rink a bit. The components of the children's park will be redeveloped on the former volleyball court.
