The City of Edmundston is proud to have received the Soleil Prize from the Mouvement acadien des communautés en santé for the Edible Forest Garden project located in the Saint-Basile sector, an initiative proposed by Manuel Lamontagne through the City’s participatory budget.
This citizen-driven project created a community space on municipal land where people can grow food, learn, and share together.
Residents proposed the idea, voted for it, and helped bring this inspiring green space to life. The selection committee especially appreciated:
Today, the site features 23 plant species and more than 320 edible plants.
It’s inspiring to see a community idea turn into concrete action, helping address food insecurity while bringing generations together.
A true living laboratory!
